Explyt connection modes

On first launch, Explyt asks you to choose one of three modes: Personal, Community or Enterprise. They determine where the plugin gets access to models and how requests are paid for. What the agent can do and whether individual tools are available depends not only on the connection mode but also on the IDE and the selected agent mode. You can check that in the feature matrix.

Personal

Personal suits you if you want to use models through the Explyt service and not configure a separate provider API key.

In this mode:

  • requests are paid for in minutes;
  • you can use subscription minutes and flex minutes;
  • models are chosen from the list available in Explyt;
  • you need to sign in to an Explyt account.

The trial period, subscription and balance top-up terms are described on the Pricing and balance page.

Community

Community is meant for working with your own API key. Explyt provides the agent interface and the JetBrains IDE integration, while requests to the model go through the provider you configure.

To connect, specify:

  1. the provider;
  2. the API address, if one is required;
  3. the API key;
  4. the model and the parameters available for it.

Cost, limits, data retention and model availability are determined by the provider you choose. Personal minutes are not used for such requests. Do not put API keys into project files and do not pass them to the agent in messages.

Enterprise

Enterprise is used when your organization has connected Explyt to its corporate platform. To sign in, you need a key issued by your organization's administrator.

The available models, access rules and usage terms are set by the corporate configuration. If the key is rejected or the model you need is missing from the list, contact your organization's Explyt administrator.

How to switch modes

Open the Explyt settings and select the Personal, Community or Enterprise tab. After switching, check the selected model and send a new request in the chat.

Switching modes does not change project files, Rules, Skills, AGENTS.md or Memory Bank. It changes how you connect to models and how requests are paid for.
