Connecting the Explyt plugin

The Explyt plugin for JetBrains IDEs can work with your subscription in two ways:

  • Personal — sign in to your Explyt account right from the plugin, no key needed. This is the main way, described in the quickstart and the initial setup.
  • Community — connect to the gateway with the OpenAI-compatible URL and the API key from your personal account, the same way third-party tools connect. This way is described below.
We recommend the Personal plan

Subscription minutes are spent the same way in both plans. The only difference is the integration: in Personal the plugin knows about your subscription and shows more information in the UI — the remaining minutes, the usage of the current chat, the up-to-date list of models and their parameters. In Community the plugin sees the gateway as a regular OpenAI-compatible provider and does not get this data.

If you have no particular reason to use a key, choose Personal.

Connecting through Community

You need the URL https://api.explyt.ai/openai/api and the API key from your personal account. Where to get them is described on the overview page.

  1. Open Explyt using the icon on the right-hand panel of the IDE

Explyt: opening the plugin from the icon on the right

  2. Go to the plugin settings

    Explyt: going to the settings

  3. In the Selected plan field, choose Community

    • On first launch the same choice is available in the Explyt Setup window at the Choose a plan step

Explyt Setup: choosing the Community plan

  4. Next to the Language model provider list, click + (Add OpenAI-compatible Provider), enter any name, for example Explyt, and click OK

    • If the provider already exists, just select it in the list
  5. Fill in the provider settings:

    • LLM provider URL — https://api.explyt.ai/openai/api
    • API key — the key from your personal account (the Connect to Explyt block, the Copy key button)
  6. Click the refresh button next to the URL field (Get a list of models) and wait for the list to load

  7. In the Language model field, choose a model

    • auto – automatic model selection: high quality with maximum availability
    • Anthropic/opus-5 – Anthropic model with high-quality answers
    • Anthropic/sonnet-5 – balance of quality and speed among Anthropic models
    • OpenAI/gpt-5.6-sol – general-purpose OpenAI model

  8. Click OK or Continue

If the list of models does not load, enable Specify the model manually and enter the model identifier, for example auto. The plugin gets the context size from the gateway automatically; if needed, you can set it manually via Specify context size manually.

You can change the key and the model at any time in the same settings. To return to the recommended way, choose the Personal plan and sign in to your account.
